NEW DELHI: The body of previous Union Minister Sushma Swaraj will be kept for three hours at the BJP headquarters today for party workers and leaders to pay tributes, BJP working president JP Nadda said.

Her last customs will be performed at the Lodhi crematorium, he said.

Ms. Sushma Swaraj, 67, passed away on Tuesday night at AIIMS in the wake of enduring a cardiovascular attack, doctors said.

A large group of Union ministers and other senior party leaders visited AIIMS and met the dispossessed family of the previous foreign minister.

A pall of melancholy plummeted at the hospital as the news on her passing left everybody in stun.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, Union Minister Smriti Irani, and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar were among the top leaders who visited the AIIMS hospital.

"Her misfortune is hopeless and the void left by her can never be filled. It's' a tremendous misfortune to the party and the country," Mr. Nadda said.

The body was later taken to her habitation in Delhi.

Mr. Nadda told reporters the body will be kept at the party headquarters from 12 pm - 3 pm for individuals to pay regards today after which it will be taken to Lodhi Crematorium for the last ceremonies.

Ravi Shankar Prasad said it was an individual misfortune for him.

"We used to address her as ''didi'' and the regard she told was marvelous. She was fine toward the beginning of the day and afterward all of a sudden we got this news. It is a difficult misfortune for me and for the country," he told reporters.

Senior BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain likewise lamented the misfortune, saying Swaraj had guided him in his profession and "she was a leader loved by everybody, from the ruling to the opposition parties".

Her commitment in the external affairs ministry is significant as she left an imprint in the field, he said.
